The SCROLL_MOVE method has been optimized such that it is significantly faster
than SCROLL_REDRAW. Adjust flags to indicate that blitting is preferred over
rendering.

Allow the saving and restoration of VGA text mode. The state is saved on the
first open and restored on the last close. Because of the non-linear mapping
of the VGA registers to the MMIO space, this will be done only on X86
platforms where the device is the primary display.
An echo 0 > /sys/class/vtconsole/vtcon1/bind will convert the display from
graphics to text mode.

- Ensure that CRTC registers are accessible by unlocking them on set_par(),
otherwise i2c reading will fail.
- The function nvidia_vga_protect(), does not protect the VGA registers, but
turns off the screen. Rename it to nvidia_screen_off().

Enabling the backlight by default appears to cause problems for many
users. This patch disables backlight controls unless explicitly
enabled by users via a module parameter. Since PMAC users are known
to work, default to enabled in that case.

fb_info->bl_mutex is badly thought out and the backlight class doesn't
need it if the framebuffer/backlight register/unregister order is
consistent, particularly after the backlight locking fixes.
Fix the drivers to use the order:
backlight_device_register()
register_framebuffer()
unregister_framebuffer()
backlight_device_unregister()
and turn bl_mutex into a lock for the bl_curve data only.

xmon writes garbage on the screen because the nvidia console driver has
changed the line pitch from what the firmware set it to. Fix it by making
the nvidia driver inform the btext engine (which xmon uses if the screen is
its output device) about changes to display resolution.

Since we now use the generic backlight infrastructure, I think we need to
call rivafb_bl_init before calling register_framebuffer since otherwise
rivafb_bl_init might race with the framebuffer layer already opening the
device and setting up the video mode. In this case we might end up with a
not yet fully intialized backlight (info->bl_dev still NULL) when calling
riva_bl_set_power via rivafb_set_par/rivafb_load_video_mode and the kernel
dies without any further notice during boot.
This fixes booting current git on a PB 6,1. In this case radeonfb/atyfb
would be affected too - I can fix that too but don't have any hardware to
test this on.

- pmac_backlight_key() is called under interrupt context, and therefore
can't use mutexes or semaphores, so defer the backlight level for
later, as it's not critical (original code by Aristeu S. Rozanski F.
<aris@valeta.org>).
- Add exports for functions that might be called from modules
- Fix Kconfig depdencies on PMAC_BACKLIGHT.
- Fix locking issues on calls from inside the driver (reported by
Aristeu S. Rozanski F., too)
- Fix wrong calculation of backlight values in some of the drivers
- Replace pmac_backlight_key_up/down by inline functions

MAX_NR_CONSOLES, fg_console, want_console and last_console are more of a
function of the VT layer than the TTY one. Moving these to vt.h and vt_kern.h
allows all of the framebuffer and VT console drivers to remove their
dependency on tty.h.

Detaching fbcon allows individual drivers to be unloaded. However several
drivers call pci_disable_device() upon exit. This function will disable the
BAR's which will kill VGA text mode and/or affect X/DRM.
To prevent this, remove calls to pci_disable_device() from several drivers.

nVidia is churning out chipsets like there's no tomorrow. And even though the
pci_device_id table now has numerous entries, it is still not guaranteed that
all supported devices are included or will be included.
Fortunately, nvidiafb has chipset detection logic built in. So, change the
contents of the pci_device_id table so it will capture all nVidia devices of
the display class. Unsupported chipsets will then be filtered out by
nvidiafb's detection logic.

This patch contains a total rewrite of the backlight infrastructure for
portable Apple computers. Backward compatibility is retained. A sysfs
interface allows userland to control the brightness with more steps than
before. Userland is allowed to upload a brightness curve for different
monitors, similar to Mac OS X.

This removes statically assigned platform numbers and reworks the
powerpc platform probe code to use a better mechanism. With this,
board support files can simply declare a new machine type with a
macro, and implement a probe() function that uses the flattened
device-tree to detect if they apply for a given machine.
We now have a machine_is() macro that replaces the comparisons of
_machine with the various PLATFORM_* constants. This commit also
changes various drivers to use the new macro instead of looking at
_machine.

Add suspend and resume hooks to make software suspend more reliable. Resuming
from standby should generally work. Resuming from mem and from disk requires
that the GPU is disabled. Adding these to the suspend script...

... should generally work. In addition, resuming from mem requires that the
video card has to be POSTed by the BIOS or some other utility.

Recent X "nv" driver was fixed for various issues with modern 6xxx and 7xxx
cards. This patch ports those fixes to nvidiafb. This makes it work fine
on the 6600 bundled with the newest G5 macs. I've verified it still works
on the 5200FX of the iMacG5.

According to Jon Smirl, filling in the field fb_cursor with soft_cursor for
drivers that do not support hardware cursors is redundant. The soft_cursor
function is usable by all drivers because it is just a wrapper around
fb_imageblit. And because soft_cursor is an fbcon-specific hook, the file is
moved to the console directory.
Thus, drivers that do not support hardware cursors can leave the fb_cursor
field blank. For drivers that do, they can fill up this field with their own
version.
The end result is a smaller code size. And if the framebuffer console is not
loaded, module/kernel size is also reduced because the soft_cursor module will
also not be loaded.

nvidiafb didn't fully hook-up the code it borrowed from X for doing flat
panel dithering (this is useful for 6 bits panels). This adds a driver
option to force it, and by default "reads" the current value from the chip
to get the firmware setting. It significantly improves the quality of
images on the iMac G5 I have here (though the X driver doesn't yet "read"
the current value and defaults to 0, so you have to add Option "FBDither"
"true" to your X config file to get that, I'll try to fix X.org to "read"
the default unless specified asap).

This patch fixes nvifiafb mode setting code to be closer to what the X
driver does, which actually makes it work on the 5200FX I have access to.
It also fix the routine that gets the EDID from Open Firmware on PPC, it
was broken in various ways and would crash at boot. Compared to the patch
I posted to linux-fbdev last week, this one just changes a printk to be
closer to the other ones in the driver.

This adds support for the Nvidia Geforce 7800 series of cards to the
nvidiafb framebuffer driver. All it does is add the PCI device id for
the 7800, 7800 GTX, 7800 GO, and 7800 GTX GO cards to the module device
table for the nvidiafb.ko driver, so that nvidiafb.ko will actually work
on these cards.
I also added the relevant PCI device ids to linux/pci_ids.h
I tested it on my 7800 GTX here and it works like a charm. I now can
get framebuffer support on this card! Woo hoo!! Nothing like 200x75 text
mode to make your eyes BLEED. ;)

A recent change in nvidiafb caused nvidiafb_cursor to always return -ENXIO
instead of using the soft_cursor. This will happen if the parameter "hwcur"
is not set, which happens to be the default.

Currently, fbcon assumes that the visual FB_VISUAL_MONO* is always 1 bit.
According to Geert, there are old hardware where it's possible to have
monochrome at 8-bit, but has only 2 colors, black - 0x00 and white - 0xff.
Fix color handlers (fb_get_color_depth, and get_color) for this special case.

This patch removes drivers that have hardware cursors from calling the
software cursor code. Also if the driver sets a no hardware cursor flag
then the driver reports a error it someone attempts to use the cursor.

"At boot time the screen appears moved to the mid right portion of the actual
video pannel making the end of the line appears at the left edge... It simply
looks like moved half way to the right"
His particular hardware has a display with an unusual dimension (1920x1200) but
unfortunately has no EDID block. None of the entries in the global mode
database is correct for this particular display, and it particularly has
difficulty scaling up 640x480 (the default startup mode of nvidiafb) to
1920x1200 which causes the above described problem.
1, Add 1920x1200 to the global mode database.
2. Let nvidiafb base the startup mode from the flatpanel dimensions only if the
EDID block is absent, no boot mode parameter is specified by the user, and
a flatpanel/LCD display is attached.
