This patch implements a new freezer subsystem in the control groups
framework. It provides a way to stop and resume execution of all tasks in
a cgroup by writing in the cgroup filesystem.
The freezer subsystem in the container filesystem defines a file named
freezer.state. Writing "FROZEN" to the state file will freeze all tasks
in the cgroup. Subsequently writing "RUNNING" will unfreeze the tasks in
the cgroup. Reading will return the current state.
* Examples of usage :
# mkdir /containers/freezer
# mount -t cgroup -ofreezer freezer /containers
# mkdir /containers/0
# echo $some_pid > /containers/0/tasks
to get status of the freezer subsystem :
# cat /containers/0/freezer.state
RUNNING
to freeze all tasks in the container :
# echo FROZEN > /containers/0/freezer.state
# cat /containers/0/freezer.state
FREEZING
# cat /containers/0/freezer.state
FROZEN
to unfreeze all tasks in the container :
# echo RUNNING > /containers/0/freezer.state
# cat /containers/0/freezer.state
RUNNING
This is the basic mechanism which should do the right thing for user space
task in a simple scenario.
It's important to note that freezing can be incomplete. In that case we
return EBUSY. This means that some tasks in the cgroup are busy doing
something that prevents us from completely freezing the cgroup at this
time. After EBUSY, the cgroup will remain partially frozen -- reflected
by freezer.state reporting "FREEZING" when read. The state will remain
"FREEZING" until one of these things happens:
1) Userspace cancels the freezing operation by writing "RUNNING" to
the freezer.state file
2) Userspace retries the freezing operation by writing "FROZEN" to
the freezer.state file (writing "FREEZING" is not legal
and returns EIO)
3) The tasks that blocked the cgroup from entering the "FROZEN"
state disappear from the cgroup's set of tasks.

The patch contains Intel IOMMU IA64 specific code. It defines new
machvec dig_vtd, hooks for IOMMU, DMAR table detection, cache line flush
function, etc.
For a generic kernel with CONFIG_DMAR=y, if Intel IOMMU is detected,
dig_vtd is used for machinve vector. Otherwise, kernel falls back to
dig machine vector. Kernel parameter "machvec=dig" or "intel_iommu=off"
can be used to force kernel to boot dig machine vector.

Introduce new interfaces, dma_*map*_attrs(), for passing architecture-specific
attributes when memory is mapped and unmapped for DMA. Give the interfaces
default implementations which ignore attributes. Also introduce the
dma_{set|get}_attr() interfaces for setting and retrieving individual
attributes. Define one attribute, DMA_ATTR_WRITE_BARRIER, in anticipation of
its use by ia64/sn. Select whether architectures implement arch-specific
versions of the dma_*map*_attrs() interfaces via HAVE_DMA_ATTRS in Kconfig.

IA64's IOMMU implementation allocates memory areas spanning LLD's segment
boundary limit. It forces low level drivers to have a workaround to adjust
scatter lists that the IOMMU builds.
We are in the process of making all the IOMMUs respect the segment boundary
limits to remove such work around in LLDs. This patch is for IA64's IOMMU.

Add CONFIG_HAVE_KRETPROBES to the arch/<arch>/Kconfig file for relevant
architectures with kprobes support. This facilitates easy handling of
in-kernel modules (like samples/kprobes/kretprobe_example.c) that depend on
kretprobes being present in the kernel.
Thanks to Sam Ravnborg for helping make the patch more lean.
Per Mathieu's suggestion, added CONFIG_KRETPROBES and fixed up dependencies.

This patch implements VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING for ia64,
which enable us to use more accurate cpu time accounting.
The VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING is an item of kernel config, which s390
and powerpc arch have. By turning this config on, these archs
change the mechanism of cpu time accounting from tick-sampling
based one to state-transition based one.
The state-transition based accounting is done by checking time
(cycle counter in processor) at every state-transition point,
such as entrance/exit of kernel, interrupt, softirq etc.
The difference between point to point is the actual time consumed
during in the state. There is no doubt about that this value is
more accurate than that of tick-sampling based accounting.

Commit bdc807871d broke the build
for this config because the sim_defconfig selects CONFIG_HZ=250
but include/asm-ia64/param.h has an ifdef for the simulator to
force HZ to 32. So we ended up with a kernel/timeconst.h set
for HZ=250 ... which then failed the check for the right HZ
value and died with:
Drop the #ifdef magic from param.h and make force CONFIG_HZ=32
directly for the simulator.

All archs except arm, um and s390 unconditionally select it.
For arm the actual configuration determine if IDE is supported.

in that generic file, and then architectures that do support it would just

in *their* architecture files. That would seem to be much more logical,
and is readable both for arch maintainers *and* for people who have no
clue - and don't care - about which architecture is supposed to support
which interface...

The break_lock data structure and code for spinlocks is quite nasty.
Not only does it double the size of a spinlock but it changes locking to
a potentially less optimal trylock.
Put all of that under CONFIG_GENERIC_LOCKBREAK, and introduce a
__raw_spin_is_contended that uses the lock data itself to determine whether
there are waiters on the lock, to be used if CONFIG_GENERIC_LOCKBREAK is
not set.
Rename need_lockbreak to spin_needbreak, make it use spin_is_contended to
decouple it from the spinlock implementation, and make it typesafe (rwlocks
do not have any need_lockbreak sites -- why do they even get bloated up
with that break_lock then?).

Currently mobility grouping works at the MAX_ORDER_NR_PAGES level. This makes
sense for the majority of users where this is also the huge page size.
However, on platforms like ia64 where the huge page size is runtime
configurable it is desirable to group at a lower order. On x86_64 and
occasionally on x86, the hugepage size may not always be MAX_ORDER_NR_PAGES.
This patch groups pages together based on the value of HUGETLB_PAGE_ORDER. It
uses a compile-time constant if possible and a variable where the huge page
size is runtime configurable.
It is assumed that grouping should be done at the lowest sensible order and
that the user would not want to override this. If this is not true,
page_block order could be forced to a variable initialised via a boot-time
kernel parameter.
One potential issue with this patch is that IA64 now parses hugepagesz with
early_param() instead of __setup(). __setup() is called after the memory
allocator has been initialised and the pageblock bitmaps already setup. In
tests on one IA64 there did not seem to be any problem with using
early_param() and in fact may be more correct as it guarantees the parameter
is handled before the parsing of hugepages=.

Equip IA64 sparsemem with a virtual memmap. This is similar to the existing
CONFIG_VIRTUAL_MEM_MAP functionality for DISCONTIGMEM. It uses a PAGE_SIZE
mapping.
This is provided as a minimally intrusive solution. We split the 128TB
VMALLOC area into two 64TB areas and use one for the virtual memmap.
This should replace CONFIG_VIRTUAL_MEM_MAP long term.

This driver for HPQ5001 devices installs a global ACPI OpRegion handler.
AML methods can use this OpRegion to call native firmware entry points.
ACPI does not define a mechanism for AML methods to call native firmware
interfaces such as PAL or SAL. This OpRegion handler adds such a mechanism.
After the handler is installed, an AML method can call native firmware by
storing the arguments and firmware entry point to specific offsets in the
OpRegion. When AML reads the "return value" offset from the OpRegion, this
handler loads up the arguments, makes the firmware call, and returns the
result.

arch/ia64/Kconfig failed to include kernel/Kconfig.preempt that meant it
did not support PREEMPT_VOLUNTARY and PREEMPT_BKL (inadvertently).
This was recently noticed when the newly-added PREEMPT_NOTIFIERS in
Kconfig.preempt that was "select"ed from drivers/kvm/Kconfig (therefore)
started giving bogus warnings ('select' used by config symbol 'KVM' refers
to undefined symbol 'PREEMPT_NOTIFIERS') on ia64 builds.
So let's remove the open-coded definition of CONFIG_PREEMPT in
arch/ia64/Kconfig and replace it with just including Kconfig.preempt
instead, like the other archs do.

b716395e2b added code to handle
a compatability issue with 32bit quota tools, but the new compat
routines are only needed when CONFIG_COMPAT=y (and with this set
to 'n' there are compilation problems since some new typedefs are
not visible).

The PCI syscalls are built on every architecture except X86, but only
a few have ever hooked them up. Use a new Kconfig symbol to save a
couple of kB on the architectures that have never used the syscalls.

The evils of Kconfig's select bite us once again...
ia64/Kconfig selects ACPI, which depends on PM.
But select ignores dependencies, allnoconfig
chooses CONFIG_PM=n, and thus the menu of sub-options
under ACPI vanish, which breaks the build.
Manually select PM along with ACPI for now.
Some day, we should delete them both, or fix select.

If an ATA drive uses legacy mode, ata driver will choose 14 and 15
as the fixed irq number. On ia64 platform, such numbers are GSI and
should be converted to irq vector.

ZONE_DMA less operation for IA64 SGI platform
Disable ZONE_DMA for SGI SN2. All memory is addressable by all devices and we
do not need any special memory pool.

This patch simply defines CONFIG_ZONE_DMA for all arches. We later do special
things with CONFIG_ZONE_DMA after the VM and an arch are prepared to work
without ZONE_DMA.
CONFIG_ZONE_DMA can be defined in two ways depending on how an architecture
handles ISA DMA.
First if CONFIG_GENERIC_ISA_DMA is set by the arch then we know that the arch
needs ZONE_DMA because ISA DMA devices are supported. We can catch this in
mm/Kconfig and do not need to modify arch code.
Second, arches may use ZONE_DMA in an unknown way. We set CONFIG_ZONE_DMA for
all arches that do not set CONFIG_GENERIC_ISA_DMA in order to insure backwards
compatibility. The arches may later undefine ZONE_DMA if their arch code has
been verified to not depend on ZONE_DMA.

All IA64 systems except IA64_HP_SIM include ACPI and PCI.
So prevent IA64 Kconfigs that try to do irritating things like building
PCI without building ACPI.
