This patch export the boot parameters via debugfs for debugging.
The files added are as follow:
boot_params/data : binary file for struct boot_params
boot_params/version : boot protocol version
This patch is based on 2.6.24-rc5-mm1 and has been tested on i386 and
x86_64 platform.
This patch is based on the Peter Anvin's proposal.

Although slighly different, the tss_struct is very similar in x86_64 and
i386. The really different part, which matchs the hardware vision of it, is
now called x86_hw_tss, and each of the architectures provides yours.
It's then used as a field in the outter tss_struct.

Previously a program could switch to a compat mode segment and then
execute SYSCALL and it would jump to an uninitialized MSR and crash
the kernel.
Instead supply a dummy target for this case.

Let's allow page-alignment in general for per-cpu data (wanted by Xen, and
Ingo suggested KVM as well).
Because larger alignments can use more room, we increase the max per-cpu
memory to 64k rather than 32k: it's getting a little tight.

With the rewrite of the SMP trampoline and the early page
allocator there is nothing that needs identity mapped pages,
once we start executing C code.
So add zap_identity_mappings into head64.c and remove
zap_low_mappings() from much later in the code. The functions
are subtly different thus the name change.
This also kills boot_level4_pgt which was from an earlier
attempt to move the identity mappings as early as possible,
and is now no longer needed. Essentially I have replaced
boot_level4_pgt with trampoline_level4_pgt in trampoline.S

Based on a idea by Jeremy Fitzhardinge:
Replace the volatiles and memory clobbers in the PDA access with
telling gcc about access to a proxy PDA structure that doesn't
actually exist. But the dummy accesses give a defined ordering for
read/write accesses.
Also add some memory barriers to the early GS initialization to
make sure no PDA access is moved before it.
Advantage is some .text savings (probably most from better
code for accessing "current"):

Now for a completely different but trivial approach.
I just boot tested it with 255 CPUS and everything worked.
Currently everything (except module data) we place in
the per cpu area we know about at compile time. So
instead of allocating a fixed size for the per_cpu area
allocate the number of bytes we need plus a fixed constant
for to be used for modules.
It isn't perfect but it is much less of a pain to
work with than what we are doing now.

Instead of hackish manual parsing
Requires earlier i386 patchkit, but also fixes i386 early_printk again.
I removed some obsolete really early parameters which didn't do anything useful.
Also made a few parameters that needed it early (mostly oops printing setup)
Also removed one panic check that wasn't visible without
early console anyways (the early console is now initialized after that
panic)
This cleans up a lot of code.

The values in init_tss.ist[] can change when an IST event occurs. Save
the original IST values for checking stack addresses when debugging or
doing stack traces.

The boot cmdline is parsed in parse_early_param() and
parse_args(,unknown_bootoption).
And __setup() is used in obsolete_checksetup().
start_kernel()
-> parse_args()
-> unknown_bootoption()
-> obsolete_checksetup()
If __setup()'s callback (->setup_func()) returns 1 in
obsolete_checksetup(), obsolete_checksetup() thinks a parameter was
handled.
If ->setup_func() returns 0, obsolete_checksetup() tries other
->setup_func(). If all ->setup_func() that matched a parameter returns 0,
a parameter is seted to argv_init[].
Then, when runing /sbin/init or init=app, argv_init[] is passed to the app.
If the app doesn't ignore those arguments, it will warning and exit.
This patch fixes a wrong usage of it, however fixes obvious one only.

This means i386 processes compiled with a recent compiler will get non
executable heap by default now. This is the same default as a 32bit PAE
kernel would use on a NX enabled CPU.

Patch uses a static PDA array early at boot and reallocates processor PDA
with node local memory when kmalloc is ready, just before pda_init.
The boot_cpu_pda is needed since the cpu_pda is used even before pda_init for
that cpu is called (to set the static per-cpu areas offset table etc)

- switches the INT3 handler to run on an IST stack (to cope with
breakpoints set by a kernel debugger on places where the kernel's
%gs base hasn't been set up, yet); the IST stack used is shared with
the INT1 handler's
[AK: this also allows setting a kprobe on the interrupt/exception entry
points]
- allows nesting of INT1/INT3 handlers so that one can, with a kernel
debugger, debug (at least) the user-mode portions of the INT1/INT3
handling; the nesting isn't actively enabled here since a kernel-
debugger-free kernel doesn't need it

We should zap the low mappings, as soon as possible, so that we can catch
kernel bugs more effectively. Previously early boot had NULL mapped
and didn't trap on NULL references.
This patch introduces boot_level4_pgt, which will always have low identity
addresses mapped. Druing boot, all the processors will use this as their
level4 pgt. On BP, we will switch to init_level4_pgt as soon as we enter C
code and zap the low mappings as soon as we are done with the usage of
identity low mapped addresses. On AP's we will zap the low mappings as
soon as we jump to C code.

CPU hotplug fills up the possible map to NR_CPUs, but it did that after
setting up per CPU data. This lead to CPU data not getting allocated
for all possible CPUs, which lead to various side effects.

This patch adds __cpuinit and __cpuinitdata sections that need to exist past
boot to support cpu hotplug.
Caveat: This is done *only* for EM64T CPU Hotplug support, on request from
Andi Kleen. Much of the generic hotplug code in kernel, and none of the other
archs that support CPU hotplug today, i386, ia64, ppc64, s390 and parisc dont
mark sections with __cpuinit, but only mark them as __devinit, and
__devinitdata.
If someone is motivated to change generic code, we need to make sure all
existing hotplug code does not break, on other arch's that dont use __cpuinit,
and __cpudevinit.

The specifications that talk about E820 map doesn't have an upper limit on
the number of e820 entries. But, today's kernel has a hard limit of 32.
With increase in memory size, we are seeing the number of E820 entries
reaching close to 32. Patch below bumps the number upto 128.
The patch changes the location of EDDBUF in zero-page (as it comes after E820).
As, EDDBUF is not used by boot loaders, this patch should not have any effect
on bootloader-setup code interface.
Patch covers both i386 and x86-64.
Tested on:
* grub booting bzImage
* lilo booting bzImage with EDID info enabled
* pxeboot of bzImage
Side-effect:
bss increases by ~ 2K and init.data increases by ~7.5K
on all systems, due to increase in size of static arrays.

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history,
even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git
archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about
3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early
git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good
infrastructure for it.
